About WaterProfile Local

Search for your city's water hardness and you will find a confident single number, usually with no date, no utility named and no indication of whether it came from a report or from a model. This site is the opposite trade: fewer places, each with its paperwork attached.

The rule this site runs on

A figure gets published here only if it was read on the utility's own report or official water-quality page, with the report year, the units as published and the retrieval date recorded alongside it. When a utility publishes a range, the range is shown as a range. When a utility publishes nothing, that is recorded as a gap. There is no ZIP-code lookup, because a ZIP code is a postal boundary and not a water system.

Author

The WaterProfile Local team. WaterProfile Local is built and maintained by a small independent team. We compile water hardness values read from each utility's own published report, show the source and retrieval date for every figure, and publish the assumptions behind any calculation on the methodology page. We are not affiliated with, and not endorsed by, any of the organisations whose published data appears here.

Nothing on this site has been tested by the author. There are no softener reviews, no filter recommendations and no test-strip accuracy claims, because none of those can be supported by a public document.

Data and method

See the methodology page for every source, retrieval date, conversion factor and editorial assumption, including the deliberately non-linear axis on the hardness scale. The underlying records are at /data/utilities.json.
